Miss Heather
Owner/Operator, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Preschool, Acro, Zumba

Heather was raised in Central Alberta and danced at a couple well known studios in the Red Deer area growing up. She had great teaching opportunities with some local studios but decided she wanted to own her own studio. So in 2003 she opened her own studio in Blackfalds, Alberta and then 8 years later opened a second location in Lacombe.  Between the two studios Heather has over 600 students that attend, and many employees she has to manage. Heather is an ADAPT trained dancer specializing in Tap and Jazz. She has completed the three year ADAPT Teachers program and is a certified ADAPT instructor. She has also obtained her level 1 and 2 Acro Dance certification. Heather teaches Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, preschool and Musical Theatre at her studios. She has received many top awards for her groups including Choreography awards at the Grande Championship level. She has also had the opportunity to do choreography for various cheerleading squads, Flash mobs, Z99 Haunted House, Figure skating, drama clubs and recently got to be a part of a CMT music video for Gord Bamford as well as choreograph his 2012/2013 tour. Heather loves all that the dance world offers and has been all over Canada and the US attending work shops to further her dance knowledge. Heather is very upbeat and positive and looks forward to adjudicating at more festivals this year

Miss Tania
Ballet, Pointe, Modern, Lyrical

Miss Tania has been dancing for over twenty five years specializing in fields such as Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap and Musical Theater to name a few. She has also had opportunities over the years to gain experience in other disciplines like Hip Hop, Belly Dancing, Breakdancing, and National / Folk Dance. Tania began teaching at the age of sixteen and specializes in Ballet. Tania Directs and Choreographs the Red Deer College’s Annual Production of “The Nutcracker”. Tania believes hard work and determination will get the dance completed, but the love for the art will make the dance a masterpiece!

Miss Amber
Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Acro, Hip Hop, Preschool,

Miss Amber grew up dancing at Dancer’s Edge Studio and now is a full time teacher with the studio. She has studied Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Ballet, Hip Hop and Musical Theatre. Miss Amber successfully completed her first year of ADAPT -TTS , and is Acrobatic Arts Certified Level 1 & 2. She has also broadened her experience through many different workshops around the world. She is also Zumba and Piloxing certified. Miss Amber has won many awards for her unique choreography and students and parents love her for her fun bubbly style. Her unique dance style also landed her a job at the Calgary Stampeed with the Cowboy Ace’s dance team. Miss Amber is looking forward to sharing her new knowledge and experiences this coming season.

Miss Julena
Preschool, Tap, Jazz, Acro, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop

Julena has been a part of Dancer’s Edge for many years, first as a dancer, then an assistant and now a full time instructor. Her loving and caring attitude is adored by dancers young and old. Julena will be attending RDC’s music program in the fall which will go along perfectly with her dance background. We welcome Julena and look forward to watching her grow as a teacher.

Miss Kara

Lyrical, Jazz, Tap, Ballet & Musical Theatre

Miss Kara is a passionate and energetic instructor who is currently working to complete her diploma in music as a vocalist at the Red Deer College. With six years experience in running her own dance lessons and nine years experience in assisting/demonstrating she has developed a love for teaching. In that time she has learned a lot about teaching and about dancers. She hopes to continue learning various teaching techniques in order to achieve her goal of creating technically strong dancers along with providing her students with a safe and comfortable environment where they are free to discover and explore their artistic capabilities.

Miss Tessa

 Hip Hop

Miss Tessa has been with Dancer’s Edge for 13 years as a dancer and an instructor. Over her time with Dancer’s Edge she has excelled at Hip Hop and is now specializing solely in Hip Hop. Tessa’s Hip Hop is unique and big city style in a small town feel. Tessa attends conferences and workshops all over the world to further her knowledge in her dance field.

Miss Stacee
Preschool, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop

This will be Miss Stacee’s third year teaching at Dancer’s Edge. Her students love her bubbly personality and her love for dance. Miss Stacee is eager to learn new things and will be attending teacher conferences this summer to further her teaching education. She is also been working on her early childhood degree and loves learning and growing.

Miss Crystal

Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Preschool, Stretch & Adult classes

Bachelor of Arts with distinction, ADAPT

Since the age of 4, dance has been an integral part of Miss Crystal’s life. She has been dancing for over 20 years, studying jazz, lyrical, tap, ballet, musical theatre, hip hop, modern, and variety. She completed her degree in psychology, with distinction, while continuing to dance for the University of Alberta Dance Team. During her last year of University, Miss Crystal started the 3 year process of becoming an ADAPT accredited tap and jazz teacher under the direction of Brian and Faye Foley. She graduated from the ADAPT Teacher Training course in 2012 becoming an accredited instructor. During this time she operated and taught at her own dance studio in Fort Saskatchewan. Miss Crystal is an award winning choreographer and has taught all ages of dancers from 3 years to adult in recreational and competitive programming. She was even nominated by her students to receive a “High Five” award for being a positive role model for youth in Strathcona County.

When Miss Crystal is not dancing, she enjoys hanging out with her son and volunteering with children and adults around the community. Her volunteer interests have included sexual assault, anger management, mental health and women’s well-being.

Miss Crystal believes that dance can instill confidence and strong self-esteem in children and adults alike and she is thrilled to be promoting the love of dance at Dancer’s Edge Studio.

Miss Jolene

Future Star Program
Miss Jolene started dancing at the age of 4. Through out her years of dance, she did many years of competitive, and also took exams in tap, jazz, and ballet. A highlight for miss Jolene was when she auditioned and had a children’s part with the National Ballet of Canada when they performed in a nearby city. Miss Jolene attended the College of the Rockies in BC where she completed her early childhood education. During that time she continued teaching and subbing in Cranbrook and Kimberley with ages 3 to adult. After some years of working in daycare and running her own dayhome, she is really excited to be joining DES as an instructor and looks forward to helping these little ones with their dance story.

Miss Angie
Acro, Kindercheer

Miss Angie has performed gymnastics since the age of five, training in Sylvan Lake and Red Deer. She also danced at the Sylvan Lake Studio and studied Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern and Musical Theatre. Miss Angie coached Artistic Gymnastics for seven years at the Sylvan Lake Gymnastics Club. She holds certificates in Level I Gymnastics and Trampoline Coaching, First Aid, and Level II Child Care. As well Miss Angie has both her level 1 and 2 Acro Dance Certification.

Miss Angie has had the opportunity to dance in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Alberta Winter Games and has danced professionally with the “Kompany Dance” in Red Deer. She has a Bachelor of Phys. Ed from U of A where she also was a member of the U of A Competitive Cheerleading Team.
We are grateful to have Miss Angie as she is very qualified and will be a great addition to our instructor team. When Miss Angie is not teaching she cares for her son and twin girls.

Miss Antoinelle
Tap, Jazz, Preschool, Lyrical,

Miss Antoinelle has been dancing since the age of 6; training in Camrose, Alberta, at the Camrose Academy of Dance and Just Dance It- The Studio. She has competed all over Alberta and Saskatchewan winning many different awards. Antoinelle is well trained in Jazz and Lyrical, both Vagonova and RAD Ballet, the Al Gilbert Tap Syllabus, and is also a Certified Zumba® Instructor. She has taught at different studios in East Central Alberta for 8 years, receiving many top awards including Outstanding, Most Promising and Choreography Awards, as well as Overall Top Group Awards for her routines. Antoinelle has created her own distinct style of dance and her choreography is original and engaging. She currently teaches all disciplines and all ages for Dancer’s Edge Studio in Blackfalds and Lacombe, and is working with a team to create and choreograph a show aboard Carnival Cruiselines in Spring 2013. She is also working with local gymnasts and equestrian vaulters by training and creating choreography for them, as well as judging fun-meets. Antoinelle has now ventured into Adjudicating and thoroughly enjoys watching, critiquing and mentoring students of all ages while they perform on-stage. Antoinelle is a very enthusiastic teacher who strives to take a creative platform in her instructing by allowing her dancers to see, feel, and both physically and mentally understand their movements and motions while dancing. She has enjoyed the opportunity to work with many different choreographers from Groove Street Productions, The 605 Collective, Sinfully Sweet, and the Northern Alberta Dance Association. Antoinelle also shares her love of dance with her sister, whom she often collaborates with in instructing and choreographing at Studio K Dance Gallery. Antoinelle currently resides in Blackfalds, and also works as a Preschool Teacher. In her spare time she enjoys to travel the world and be inspired by overseas adventures.

Ms Aalbers
Ballet Tech, Pointe, Stretch & Strength- Competitive

We have been fortunate to have one of Alberta’s top ballet instructors to our studio for the past three years. Shanda Aalbers has been involved in the arts for over thirty years and offers a wealth of teaching experience in numerous facets of dance. She is well known in the dance community for her innovative choreography and her unique creative talents.

Ms. Aalbers was the owner and artistic director of the Academy of Dance in Wetaskiwin and for many years has been a freelance teacher for studios throughout Alberta. Her greatest rewards as a teacher are the accomplishments of her students. Many of her dancers have graduated from renowned performing arts programs including the Julliard Academy. Former students can be seen in companies such as Les Ballets Jazz De Montreal, the Alberta Ballet, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, Radio City Rockettes, Disney Productions, as well as a variety of cruise lines around the world. She also takes great pride in knowing that many of her past students have developed into fine teachers and choreographers with wonderful creativity and compassion for children.

Dancers trained by this warm and caring teacher can often be recognized by their emotional quality and strong sense of performance. A perfectionist, Mrs. Aalbers’ choreography stands out because of its originality, attention to detail, and professional quality. Her artistic versatility allows extremely varied works that always showcase dancers in their best light.

Her positive, sensitive approach encourages dancers of every age to work to their individual potential. For this reason, Ms. Aalbers is always in demand as a guest teacher and adjudicator. She is passionate about her art and genuinely enjoys sharing her knowledge and love of dance with teachers and students of every age.
